“You’re Kind of Scaring Me”: Paparazzi HARASSED Selena Gomez Until She CRIES They Asked TOUCHING Questions About EX Justin Bieber – WATCH
Just because a celebrity was or is in a relationship with another celebrity, doesn’t give people the right to invade their privacy. Last week, Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse were followed to their car by a paparazzo, who hounded them nonstop for a confirmation of whether or not they’re together. (For the record, they both replied with non-answers that made it clear the harassment was not welcome.) And this time, Selena Gomez is the one being pursued relentlessly by the paparazzi, and her response proves exactly why people, regardless of celebrity status, need to be left alone.
According to Elle, a video taken last Wednesday and uploaded by Pop Crave shows the singer walking out of a Starbucks before immediately being bombarded with questions about Justin Bieber. In case you haven’t heard, Selena and Justin reportedly went on a break last month, and since then, it looks like she’s been interrogated nonstop about the relationship.
“Selena, is Justin just a little brother to you?” one paparazzo asks as she exits the coffee shop.
“Do you guys just mind if I have the rest of the day?” responds Selena, who looks cornered. “You’re kind of scaring me.”
“OK, well, there’s other guys here, it’s competitive,” replies the paparazzo, to which Selena says, “OK, sorry,” in a small voice before walking to her car.
The infuriating video proves that celebrities deserve just as much of a right to privacy, and that harassing someone about their private life is never OK, no matter how famous that person is. Selena did not have to apologize to people who had followed her around to the point that she was feeling scared, and other paparazzi being “competitive” isn’t an excuse for continuing to invade someone’s privacy after they’ve asked you to stop. While it may be fun to keep up with celebrity relationships and wonder about who’s dating whom, it’s important that this doesn’t cross the line into harassment.
As Lili said in November after people tried to take photos of her eating, “I am a human being…You aren’t entitled to me.”
