Caitlin Clark has had a target on her back since she started playing for the Indiana Fever in the WNBA, but she seems to have found a friend in Brittney Griner.

Clark came into the league with a huge reputation after her NCAA form caused a swell of interest in the sport that had not been seen before.

Clearly, many of her fellow pros decided that she needs to be reminded that she is new around here and there have been some incredibly strong challenged and some very harsh words. To her credit, Clark has nor risen to any of the bait, choosing to concentrate on her own game and development.

Griner and Clark’s mutual respect

Griner plays for the Phoenix Mercury and the Fever recently beat the Mercury 95-86 at home. Clark got a chance to speak with Griner, a ten-time WNBA All-Star, after the match.

According to IndyStar’s Kyle Smedley, Griner explained that she was impressed with Clark’s transition to the WNBA. Clark shows her gratitude by responding with a heartfelt message to the former WNBA champion.

“Super kind. She said the same thing to me when we played Phoenix earlier this year. It’s just something you appreciate. As long as I’ve watched this league, she’s been a staple of this league and been absolutely tremendous. So, for her to say that is not something you take lately and just something I really appreciate,” Clark said.

In the Fever’s win on Friday, Clark managed to rack up 20 points, six rebounds and 13 assists. Griner capped off the night with four points and one assist after being taken out early due to a right hip injury she suffered in the second quarter.
