Caitlin Clark stole the spotlight with an astounding performance on Saturday, posting a 19-point, 12-rebound and 13-assist triple-double to lead the Indiana Fever to a crucial 83-78 victory over a New York Liberty team featuring stars like Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu.

Despite Clark’s impressive showing, Ionescu did not hold back her disappointment in her post-game comments, making it clear that she was far from impressed with the upset loss.

Sabrina Ionescu Talks About Competing Against Steph Curry in the 3-Point Contest With No Boundaries

“We played Liberty basketball, but understanding, this is their Super Bowl game,” Ionescu said.

“We’ve beaten them three times this year already. We knew they were gonna come into this game really hungry, and it’s tough to beat a team four times.

“It’s just tough in our league, especially with how every team has grown, and especially this young team.

“We’ve been able to see how much they’ve grown, just throughout the first half of the season.

“I don’t think it was necessarily us not playing our style of basketball, it was just understanding that we have to come in with a sense of urgency knowing it’s not going to be as easy as it was in the first couple games that we were able to go up against them, because they’ve just grown.”

Mitchell and Boston shone too

While the 5-foot-11 Liberty guard might not have been won over by the Fever’s performance, the victory marked a turning point for the team.

Clark received significant support from her teammates, with Kelsey Mitchell contributing 18 points and Aaliyah Boston adding 14 points.

Their combined efforts helped the Fever overcome a troubling trend of three consecutive losses to the Liberty in just 17 days, two of which were by margins exceeding 35 points.
