The Minnesota Lynx are one of the WNBA’s best and at times most unheralded teams heading toward the All-Star Break, and Napheesa Collier is a big reason why.
The 2019 first round pick currently ranks fourth in the WNBA in scoring with 20 points and 10.2 rebounds per game heading into this weekend’s marquee matchup vs. Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever.
Collier’s Lynx were scheduled to take on the Los Angeles Sparks and Seattle Storm this week before a marquee matchup with Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever this Sunday at 4 p.m. ET.
Now, Collier’s status is in doubt after it was revealed that she suffered a plantar fasciitis injury vs. the Connecticut Sun on July 4, a 78-73 Sun victory.
Video footage shows the Lynx forward’s and former UConn star’s injury in real time as it unfolded during the team’s holiday loss.
Collier began limping, sat down on the bench, and worked into the Lynx’s lockerroom under her own power and did not return.
She finished with nine points, six rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
Following her injury, the Lynx failed to score a basket over a six-minute fourth quarter stretch, sealing their fate against the Sun.
Collier’s prognosis for the next three games including Sunday’s marquee matchup vs. recent triple-double merchant Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever is not known, but it is expected that she will be back by next month at the latest.
